Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

4 april 2015 - Eday, Verenigd Koninkrijk

What is a wwoofer to wear when she is invited to a wedding reception?
I rummaged through the clothes in my backpack.
Overalls? No way.
Ripped jeans? No, better not.
Stinky cow-sweater? Hmm... After a wash, maybe.

It was sheer luck that my mother happened to buy me a dress in Inverness, that it happened to end up in my bag after I had asked her to take it with her and that I actually remembered it was there.
Fortunately I could borrow leggings and shoes. Although I still maintain that wellies would have really complemented my look.

I was a bit nervous. What if no one wanted to talk to me? What had I got myself into?
Of course I was being very silly. Orcadians are very kind and were genuinely interested in what I had to say.
After a warm welcome and some sips of liquid courage from the cog (Orkney wedding tradition: http://www.orkneyjar.com/tradition/weddings/cog.htm mother dear, I promise I will act suprised if you make this for my wedding) I ventured out onto the dancefloor to dance "Strip the Willow".

I was assured that it was very easy: "Just imitate the others". No further instructions were given.
And a few moments later I was spinning through the room, locking and unlocking arms with people and trying to see where I was going. I got the hang of it in the end and had the most tremendous fun.
I do apologize in advance for all the poor Dutchies that will come to my wedding one day for making you dance Strip the Willow and making you feel very foolish.

But oh well, now you have ample time to prepare for it, or to make up some excuse why it is absolutely impossible for you to attend.
